From an early career as a teacher, I was trained as a child therapist and specialist in working with young children having developmental challenges and, their families. My private practice reflects the range of my clinical interests and experience. In addition to the general challenges to parenting and development I have had much experience with children who have been adopted (including from other countries), traumatized, both as a result of single incident and ongoing, and with parents and their children who have constitutional challenges.

Modalities include dyadic work with child and parent, individual play therapy and peer play social skills group work which fosters emotional cognitive and creative development. Parent guidance is often part of the work with a child. In addition to private practice, I am on the faculty of the Institute for Infants, Children and Families where I was part of the group that developed the early Childhood Group Therapy training program, one that trains social workers, psychologists and teachers to work in small groups with the children at their child care centers. It is similar to peer play social skills groups and is a strengths based approach to work with young children.

I have presented at national conferences including the American Orthopsychiatric Association and Zero to Three on Early Childhood Group Therapy, on the impact of trauma on children and, on the influence of violence (including TV violence) on development. Most recently, I wrote and published an article which was published in Zero to Three, about the impact of 9/11 on a group of adults working at a childcare center near Ground Zero. I have served as a Mental Health consultant at three Head Start programs in New York City and, at a residential school for orphaned and abused children in Camoapa, Nicaragua. Initial consultation during which a fee per session will be decided if we agree to work together.
