Counseling
for Children
Not
all children enjoy the
"carefree" days of
childhood. Unfortunately, when
things start to go wrong, people
often despair of being able to
repair the damage
Many
children have mental health problems
that interfere with normal
development and functioning.
Research findings indicate that one
in 10 children and adolescents in
the U.S. suffers from mental illness
severe enough to cause some level of
impairment. Moreover, in any given
year, it is estimated that fewer
than one in five of these youth
receives needed treatment.
There
is heated debate in our society
about the proper roles of
medications and psychotherapies for
children at risk and children
already suffering. But, one thing is
clear: children who go untreated,
suffer, cannot learn, and may not
form healthy relationships with
peers and family.
