Welcome
to Black Counselors.com!
Black Counselors.com was created to meet
the need of the Black Community to find
qualified mental health clinicians and
resources sensitive to their needs.
Black clients often find it difficult,
if not impossible in some areas to
find a Black therapist or counselor.
Racism, sexual and economic
exploitation, violence, addiction,
diet and a legacy of bi-cultural
factors cause mental health problems
to soar among black families. The
occurrence of depression is thought to
be 50% higher among African American
women than it is in white women. It is
thought that Blacks, 11-12% of the
population, comprise nearly 25%,
one-quarter, of the recipients of
mental health services in the United
States.
Black Counselors.com hopes to assist
both client and clinician in successfully
addressing these issues and help African
American consumers take charge of
their mental health.
